Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) for Thyroid Nodules

Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)

Radiofrequency ablation, or RFA, has been an established minimally invasive technique that uses heat to destroy tissue. It has used clinically to shrink the size of various tumors, nodules and other abnormal cells in patients. Through the guidance of ultrasound, your physician will guide a probe towards the site of interest to target the diseased tissue.

Currently, surgical intervention for many thyroid nodules are the preferred method for treatment. Surgery can be quite invasive, lead to various complications, and cause scarring. Fortunately we have been able to bring RFA to Canada and have been treating thyroid nodules. Patients who would otherwise have to deal with the removal of their thyroid can save their normal thyroid while destroying the problematic nodules.
